Famous broadcast journalist Tom Snyder, the man who co-anchored
the first noon news with Marciarose Shestack for KYW-TV in 1965, died in San Francisco at age 71.Two
years ago Snyder announced on his Web site that he had been diagnosed with chronic
lymphocytic leukemia.
Snyder became famous in the late seventies as the host of "Tomorrow
with Tom Snyder," which aired after "The Tonight Show" on NBC.
In that period Snyder made some famous interviews. In 1975 Snyder
made an interview with John Lennond and he is also the man behind U2’s, the
famous Irish rock band, first television appearance in US.
Among other famous interviews made by Snyder is the one with
the serial killer, Charles Manson.
After “Tommorow” show was canceled in 1982, Snyder worked at
WABC-TV in New York and KABC-TV in Los Angeles before taking
his talk show style to ABC Radio.
Snyder returned to television on CNBC in the early '90s.
Eventually David Letterman, a Snyder fan for years, hired Snyder in 1995 as
host of "The Late, Late Show," which followed Letterman's "Late
Night."
Snyder is survived by his daughter and longtime girlfriend,
who live in the Bay Area.
