Rockstar confirmed for MCV that it has appealed the ban of
Manhunt 2 in UK.
In June BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) the British equivalent of
ESRB, rejected Rockstar’s Manhunt 2.Also, David Cooke, director of the BBFC,
offered a detailed explanation about the reasons behind board’s decision.
"Where possible we try to consider cuts or, in the case
of games, modifications which remove the material which contravenes the Board’s
published Guidelines. In the case of Manhunt 2 this has not been
possible," he said at the time.
But after one month of silence, Rockstar seems to be determined
to reverse the ban. “Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. confirmed today that
Rockstar Games has appealed the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC)
decision that prohibited the release of any version of Manhunt 2 in Britain.” The company
said in statement for MCV.
Manhunt 2, the sequel of Manhunt, was scheduled for release
in July, but Rockstar postponed the game after it was banned in UK and Ireland. In US ESRB has rated the
game as AO (adults only) which means almost an equivalent to a ban, because the
big retailers like Wal-Mart or BestBuy won’t agree to sell a game rated as AO.
Also, Sony and Nintendo said it won’t support a game rated
as AO. Manhunt 2 was set to be released for Nintendo Wii, PS2 and PSP.
For the moment it’s still unclear how Rockstar hopes to
reverse the UK
ban, but according to MCV the chairman of the VAC (Video Appeal Committee) John
Woods has to announce now a date when the company will present the new
demonstrations of the game.
