In glamorous ceremony held in New York Oscar-winning actress
Reese Witherspoon, 31, became an Avon Lady and also the company's first Global
Ambassador
Also Ms. Witherspoon will serve as the Honorary Chairman of
the Avon Foundation, focusing on breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency
relief initiatives, and she will be the spokeswoman for Avon's
beauty brands and Sales Representatives.
"I am truly impressed by how Avon has been able to
effect real change in the communities in which it does business and by how
committed the company is to providing economic and personal fulfillment to
women all over the world," said Witherspoon, who earned a Oscar award for
Best Actress in 2005 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk The
Line."
She is also famous for her roles in movies like “Cruel
Intentions”, “Legally Blonde” and “Sweet
Home Alabama”
The exact terms of Witherspoon’s multiyear agreement with Avon weren’t disclosed.
"We are thrilled to welcome Reese as our global
ambassador and believe she will give a strong voice to the company's commitment
to empowering women," said Andrea Jung, chairwoman and chief executive
officer of Avon Products Inc.
Last year Witherspoon divorced Ryan Philippe, to whom she
married in 1999, after they co-starred in “Cruel Intentions”.
