Timex Joins the iPod Boat with iControl

Renowned watch manufacturer Timex has joined the Apple boat with a new tiny controller integrated in the hand wrist that is designed to work with your iPod.

Dubbed Ironman iControl, the petite mechanism communicates wirelessly with the iPod and can be used as a remote control for changing tracks, raising or lowering the volume and playing/stopping songs. The two devices are connected using a small dongle that needs to be plugged in the iPod, which then sends and receives low frequency radio waves from the watch. If there are multiple watches within range (max is about 10 feet), it’ll pick up the first pusher.

For sports fans, the new watch also includes 50-lap memory recall chronograph, a multi-mode countdown timer, two interval timers for speed and endurance training and three alarms. The watch has a night light for use in the dark and its battery life is three years. It is also water-resistant to up to 100 meters.

The new iPod accessory is a direct replica to the Nike+iPod Sports Kit launched last year, that allows jogging addicts to store information about their physical activity on their iPod, or even see how much calories they lost during workout (these information can also be communicated through headphones).

"The days of fumbling for your iPod in mid-stride are over," said Heberto Calves, vice president of sports marketing. "iControl offers cutting edge technology and contemporary design, in addition to the functional quality and durability people have come to expect from Timex."

The diversely tinted Ironman iControl will be yours for $125, only from Apple Store and Timex-authorized retailers.
