Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz and crooner John Mayer are reportedly getting friendlier and friendlier, prompting speculation that they may be the newest celebrity couple.

Cameron and John were spotted in New York City earlier this week, going about town together. Us Weekly quotes a source saying: “They went out to several places... It was the two of them, getting to know each other, out on the town.”

This is reportedly not the first time the two have been out and about. Us Weekly says, quoting a source: “This was technically not their first time hanging out. They've hung out together with friends before. However, this was the first time together like this. It's new and developing...but they really like each other and it went well.”

The actress is currently in New York shooting her new movie, a comedy titled “What Happens in Vegas.” John lives in NYC.

The singer’s representative did not confirm that John and Cameron are a couple, telling Us: “We do not comment on our client's personal lives.” Cameron’s rep had no comment.

It would seem Cameron likes her men younger and musical. She and pop star Justin Timberlake were a couple for nearly 4 years before breaking up in late 2006. The two were very discreet and declined to offer the press further details about their separation.

While the “SexyBack” singer was 8 years her junior, John Mayer is only 5 years younger than the 34-year-old Cameron.

Earlier this year he and Jessica Simpson ended their relationship, after several months of improbable appearances together in public. Recent rumors that he was dating actress/singer Mandy Moore have been dispelled by a statement from the young artist.

Since the split, Justin Timberlake has comforted himself in the companionship of actress Jessica Biel.
