Dina and Michael Lohan are famous for having given young actress and troubled drinker Lindsay Lohan to the world. And now they have divorced.
There has been much talk over Dina and Michael Lohan’s failed marriage and the influence it has had over 21-year-old Lindsay. All in all, though, she‘s been two times through rehab this year and was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence and cocaine possession.
Suffice to say that Lindsay’s dad has been down that path already. He was charged with drunken driving a couple of years back and sentenced to jail time. And it wasn’t even his first time behind the bars.
Leaving law-breaking in the Lohan family behind, Dina and Michael’s divorce was finalized this Friday. The two were even praised by their judge for having handled the situation well.
Supreme Court Justice Robert A. Ross told Michael and Dina Lohan: “You have both demonstrated to me extraordinarily good judgment in resolving this matter as you did.”
While the terms of the divorce agreement were not disclosed, it is known that Dina Lohan has custody of the couple's two minor children, Aliana, 13, and Dakota, 10. The terms will become official within 60 days.
The couple’s other two children, Lindsay, 21, and Michael, 19, were not involved in the divorce, as they are no longer minors.
Michael Lohan, who has been quite outspoken recently on the subject of Lindsay’s drunk driving, told reporters outside the courthouse: “I wish Dina the best and I hope we can both move forward and put our best foot forward for the kids' sake and just be good parents.”
Dina sounded somewhat less forgiving, telling reporters: “Now the healing process can begin for my children and myself.”
Lindsay’s troubles will have to find some kind of solution as well within this “healing process.” Arrested last month in Santa Monica, California, for driving under the influence, the young actress is reportedly in rehab for a third time, at an undisclosed location.
Dina said Lindsay was doing “fantastic.” She will be in court on Aug. 24 in connection with her arrest.
While her mother has been optimistic in front of the press, maintaining a happy perspective on things and expressing her confidence in Lindsay’s power to recover, her father has repeatedly said she needs treatment.
