Actor Brian Bonsall, who played the youngest member of the Keaton family in the ‘80s sitcom “Family Ties,” was sentenced to two years probation Friday following a domestic violence incident in March.

Brian Bonsall, 25, was arrested in March after his girlfriend reported a violent episode in their home. At the time, she said he had poured an alcoholic drink on her face while she slept, put her in a choke hold and threw her onto a bed when she tried to leave.

Bonsall said he pushed her down in an act of self-defence, when the woman cut his arm and face with a steak knife. She denied the claim and wasn't charged in the case.

Friday however he pleaded guilty to third-degree assault. He has been placed under two years of probation. His lawyer, Paul McCormick, said Bonsall has successfully completed a 30-day rehab program and has been alcohol and drugs free for five months.

The lawyer also added that Bonsall and his girlfriend have reconciled and are attending couples counseling.

Prosecutor Peter Maguire said Bonsall has been compliant with sobriety monitoring.

Bonsall was only 5 when he became a member of the “Family Ties” cast, which already included Michael J. Fox, then at the beginning of his career. He later appeared in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and several made-for-TV films.

Among these, “Father Hood” (1993) starring Patrick Swayze and Halle Berry and “Father and Scout” (1994), starring Bob Saget.

Bonsall currently works in construction, according to TMZ and plays in a band.
