Rapper R Kelly was charged with several child pornography counts five years ago but his trial is delayed time after time after time.
R Kelly was first charged in 2002 for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a girl whom prosecutors say may have been as young as 13 or 14. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to the 14 counts of child pornography brought against him.
After several delays of his trial, Sept. 17 had finally been set as the day the process begins. However, the trial has been postponed once more. The AP reports that Cook County Circuit Judge Vincent Gaughan postponed the trial after Assistant State's Atty. Shauna Boliker, gave birth last week.
These past five years have not been unsatisfactory for R Kelly, 38, as far as his career is concerned. He released Chocolate Factory in 2003, Happy People/U Saved Me in 2004, and TP-3: Reloaded in 2005, which all sold quite well.
The looming trial has not stopped Kelly from completing three concert tours over the past years, including one with fellow rapper Jay-Z.
Whenever the trial does resume, the prosecution will have some trouble. The underage girl appearing in the porn video has been identified by several people; however, both she and her parents deny she is the person shown on tape.
Kelly has also denied he is the man in the video.
Previous delays were caused by medical emergencies, such as Judge Gaughan falling off a ladder and breaking several bones and Kelly having surgery for a burst appendix.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
