Good-bye Singles, Welcome Ringles?

It’s so funny how Sony BMG thought to revive the long-dead single CD industry that you might even buy it just to prolong the amusement. Maybe this is the only way they stand a chance to sell it.

“Ringles” are the innovative alternative of the single CD, or at least this is what Sony thinks, as hype hasn’t persuaded too many customers yet. A ringle contains one main track, a remix and an older song and a ringtone from a certain artist.

Compared to the price of the old CDs that cost about $20, the $6 - $7 ringles’ cost is thought by its producers to be a bargain. Compared to the other possibilities available to customers, like iTunes, ringles appear more of a joke, as you can have one track retailed for only one dollar. Also, ringtones are easy to reach, customers being able to make one out of tracks they have already purchased; if a iPhone user, a ringtone maker is available,  charging only 99 cents for each ringtone.

We still haven’t discovered the bargain in Sony BMG’s proposal, but Universal Music Group too decided to give ringle a chance, releasing 20 ringles until November. Sony supports the idea with 50 ringles.

Anyway, if you are around Wal-Mart, Amazon, Best Buy or Target, you might cast a glance at them.
