SCEA Appoints Scott A. Steinberg As New Vice President of Product Marketing

In the text-gen gaming consoles battle Sony is still struggling to close the gap that is separating its PlayStation 3 sales from Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii.

The company has slashed the price of the console, it has announced new games, but after a boost in sales during July, Sony managed to sell only 130,000 units in August in US.

Still, Sony continues to find ways to solve its problems and today SCEA announced

the appointment of 20-year industry veteran Scott A. Steinberg to the newly-created role of Vice President, Product Marketing. He will be responsible

Scott A. Steinberg is well known in the gaming world and he has also a large experience in marketing entertainment. for all hardware, software and channel marketing for PlayStation in North America

Steinberg, who will officially join SCEA on October 1st, was Vice President of Marketing at SEGA America responsible for all of SEGA's consumer brand and digital commerce efforts in North America.

Four years ago, Steinberg has lead Roxio's marketing and digital commerce efforts and orchestrated the marketing re-launch of the company's digital music subsidiary, Napster, as a legal digital music service.

Sony announced that Steinberg will report to Peter Dille, Senior Vice President, Marketing and PlayStation Network. "We are thrilled to have Scott join our team as he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the PlayStation marketing staff and the management group here at SCEA," said Dille

During the pas week end, George Harrison, the Marketing Chief of Nintendo US has announced he will leave the company after Nintendo decided to relocate its sales and marketing staff from Redmond, Washington to San Francisco and New York.
