Actress Alicia Silverstone has decided to show her love for animals by posing nude in a PETA campaign for vegetarianism.
The 30-year-old actress, a longtime advocate of vegetarian habits, bares all in a new ad campaign for animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The print and video spots show her lying naked on green luscious grass, while the words “I’m Alicia Silverstone and I’m a vegetarian” appear on the printed version of the ad.
She says the same words in the video spot, adding “there’s nothing in the world that’s changed me as much as this. I feel so much better and have so much more energy,” as she seductively comes out of a swimming pool.
The PETA-Silverstone campaign will debut Wednesday in Houston, airing on Food Network, Lifetime and E!. PETA said Houston was picked for the commercial's launch because it is one of the cities with the least healthy eating habits.
Alicia’s sexy video was directed by Dave Meyers, who previously directed videos for Missy Elliot, reports the AP.
PETA’s official website includes a message from Alicia, in which she professes her longstanding love for animals and the improvement her life has shown since becoming a vegetarian.
“Like most people, I wasn’t always a vegetarian, but I’ve always loved animals,” she says, adding that cows, pigs and goats are just as “cute and funny” as the dogs and cats we have in our homes.
She emphasizes that, “they, too, want to live and feel love.”
Alicia calls the decision she made 10 years ago, to become a vegan, “the single-most important and helpful” of her decisions.
She then extols the physical and spiritual benefits of being a vegan: weight loss, stronger nails, glowing skin, joy and peace (in this order).
“I feel physically and spiritually better than I could have ever imagined knowing that I am doing everything I can to reduce animal suffering,” she concludes, “with simple lifestyle choices like being vegan, never wearing any products made from animals (like wool and leather), and buying only from companies that NEVER test their products or ingredients on animals.”
Her favorite vegan foods, according to peta.org, are miso soup with dumplings, rosemary and hazelnut- encrusted seitan and scones. She also shares some favorite fashion accessories and cosmetic products that are all animal-friendly.
