Mais Oui! Orange To Sell iPhone in France

As widely expected, France Telecom, Orange’s parent company, confirmed today that it had signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in France.

France Telecom's chief executive Didier Lombard announced the deal with the US technology giant on the sidelines of a telecommunications conference in Hanoi, AFP reported.

Orange confirmed that the phone will go on sale in November, but the company didn’t release any details about the prices or service plans.

Yesterday Apple and T-Mobile announced that T-Mobile will be the exclusive German carrier of Apple’s iPhone when it makes its debut in Germany on November 9.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with T-Mobile to bring the iPhone to Germany,” said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. “Customer response to iPhone in the US has been incredible, and we can't wait to introduce T-Mobile customers to the most revolutionary mobile device on the planet.”

T-Mobile wireless unit has also secured rights to the device in Austria, Hungary, Croatia and the Netherlands.

The price of iPhone in Germany will be 399 euros ($558) and T-Mobile declined Wednesday to disclose its calling fees for users of the phone.

Apple’s European tour has begun earlier this week in London where Steve Jobs announced Telefonica O2 will sell iPhone in UK.

Despite rumors Apple didn’t unveil a 3G version of iPhone and Steve Jobs said the 3G technology is not yet good enough for the iPhone's batteries and Apple will sell in Europe the same iPhone as in US. Though, Apple CEO confirmed that a 3G iPhone could be unveiled as early as next year.

“Our phone has eight hours of talk time life. That's really important when you start to use the internet and want to use the phone to listen to music. We've got to see the battery lives for 3G get back up into the five-plus hour range. Hopefully we'll see that late next year", Jobs said.
