Experts Study Photo in Madeleine McCann Case

Experts are analyzing a photograph taken in Morocco of a blonde girl who reportedly looks like missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann, British media said.

The photo shows an elderly woman wearing traditional Moroccan clothes walking on the side of a road with a light-skinned girl on her back. A Spanish tourist, Clara Torres, allegedly took the photo on August 31 near a town in north Morocco and decided to hand it over to authorities.

The tourist said she believes that the girl in her photograph bore a resemblance to Madeleine, but didn’t download it until recently. In the past days several people said they saw a child resembling the British toddler in Morocco and that was when the Spanish woman decided to take her photo to the police.

“As soon as I took the photo we were very struck by the little girl, who was very blonde. The we heard on the news that there were various people who had said they had seen Madeleine in Morocco. I ran to the computer, downloaded the photos ... and when we saw it we realized yes, it could be her. It sent shivers down my spine,” she said.

At the moment Interpol experts are analyzing the picture taken from nearly 200 metres away using state-of-the-art technology in order to determine whether Madeleine is indeed in that picture or its just another false alarm.

A copy of the photo has been given to Madeleine’s family. Kate and Gerry McCann have been named formal suspects in the mysterious disappearance of their daughter by Portuguese authorities, but they vehemently denied any implication.

“There have been numerous sightings, not just in Morocco but in other countries. As a result, I have to urge caution at this stage,” family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said.

“Kate and Gerry know all too well through bitter experience that all of the sightings up until now have come to nothing, unfortunately.”

Madeleine vanished on May 3 from her parents’ vacation apartment in the tourist resort of Praia Da Luz, southern Portugal. Her parents said she is still alive and pledged to continue the search regardless of the accusations brought against them.

Numerous reports coming from countries across the globe said Madeleine was sighted there, but this is the first time when some palpable evidence surfaces.
