Telefonica Teams Up With Yahoo For Search

Telefonica, one of the largest telecommunications companies, has chosen Yahoo’s oneSearch as the main search service on Telefónica’s mobile portals in 15 countries in Europe and Latin America. This means that Yahoo oneSearch will potentially reach more than 100 million consumers worldwide.

Yahoo! oneSearch is a mobile search service designed to give consumers what they want when they are on their mobile phone - instant answers. The service recognizes the intent of a search term and presents relevant content - not just a list of web links to PC sites - on the results page. Results are grouped by subject making.

For example, if a consumer wants to go to a movie this weekend, they just need to type the name of the movie into the search box. The search results would first list the movie, including a user rating, local theaters the movie is playing at, news headlines related to the movie and more. To dig more deeply into the results, a consumer would simply need to click on any item or category. For example, to see all the movies playing at a specific listed theater, just click on the theater name.

Also Yahoo oneSearch gives consumers access to financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos, Web images, as well as Web and Mobile Web sites.

“Yahoo!’s new partnership with Telefónica furthers our leadership in mobile and demonstrates our commitment to working with partners to enhance the Internet experience for customers on their mobile phone,” said Marco Boerries, executive vice president of Yahoo!’s Connected Life Division. “Together we can grow usage of mobile Internet services and create new revenue streams through mobile advertising.”

Additionally, Yahoo Mail will be seamlessly integrated into Telefónica’s Mail Express service, providing Yahoo Mail users with the ability to receive their Yahoo Mail messages directly on their mobile phone via MMS messaging, enabling customers on the Telefónica network in Spain and Latin America to stay connected to their community even when they are away from their PC.
