Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles in a fourth installment in “The Fast and the Furious” series.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Diesel, 40, and Walker, 34, are currently in negotiations to star once more as street gang leader Dominic Toretto and undercover policeman Brian O'Connor, respectively.
“The Fast and the Furious,” directed by Rob Cohen and released in 2001, was hugely successful and earned more than $200 million in worldwide ticket sales. It spawned two more sequels, “2 Fast 2 Furious” in 2003, and “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” in 2006.
Paul Walker starred in the first two movies and was joined by Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez in the first installment and by Eva Mendes in the second. Diesel did not reprise his role for the 2003 sequel and only had a cameo in “Tokyo Drift.”
“2 Fast 2 Furious” was directed by John Singleton and had even more impressive box office earnings: $236 million overall.
The fourth installment can already rely on the collaboration of Chris Morgan and Justin Lin, the writer and director team behind “Tokyo Drift.”
Filming reportedly begins in spring 2008, in Los Angeles, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The film has not received a title yet.
Paul Walker’s screen credits include adventure film “Into the Blue,” Clint Eastwood’s “Flags of Our Fathers” and the Disney film “Eight Below.”
Diesel recently finished filming “Babylon A.D.,” a science fiction film scheduled for a 2008 release. He stars alongside former Bond girl Michelle Yeoh.
He is also attached to direct and star in “Hannibal the Conqueror” about the legendary Carthaginian commander, also slated for a 2008 release.
