Actor Nick Cannon and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks announced earlier this week they have broken up, after a four-month engagement.
The two young celebrities’ engagement was rapidly an event of common knowledge, when Nick proposed to Selita earlier this year in May, by way of a giant TV screen in New York’s Times Square.
The actor popped the question as the words "Selita will you marry me?" appeared on the Jumbotron. He also had a 12-carat diamond ring to plead for his cause.
Selita said yes.
Thursday however, the winds of change were blowing. “Selita and Nick are taking a break to focus on their careers but still very much love each other and remain the best of friends,” Ebanks' publicist, Melissa Raubvogel, said.
No further details were provided.
Selita, 24, is an official Victoria's Secret Angel, while Nick, 26, has appeared in movies such as “Drumline” and “Love Don't Cost a Thing.” He has also starred on MTV shows.
At the time of the two youngsters’ engagement, there were rumors that Selita and Nick had actually already secretly married, with reports of a Las Vegas ceremony in February. The couple denied it at the time.
People.com reports that both Selita and Nick had cooled off during the summer from their initial romantic outburst.
Nick told the magazine that they weren’t rushing with the wedding plans: “We haven't really talked about a lot of that stuff. You've got to take it slow.”
The Victoria’s Secret model also appeared to be more level-headed when she confessed to People: “He's all about the bling and having a big wedding. Me? I'm all about the courthouse.”
