The INTERPOL has launched a public manhunt as it released digitally recovered photos of an individual who posted photos on the Internet of him engaging in sex with a dozen boys from various countries. The international agency tries to ID the gay pedophile after specialists from Germany’s federal police force, the Bundeskriminalamt, managed to produce usable photos of the man's face despite the fact they were altered to hide it.

INTERPOL’s Trafficking in Human Beings unit has so far failed to find the guy through its network of 186 National Central Bureaus and specialist units, which determined the agency to pursue this unprecedented path.

"For years images of this man sexually abusing children have been circulating on the Internet. We have tried all other means to identify and to bring him to justice, but we are now convinced that without the public’s help this sexual predator could continue to rape and sexually abuse young children whose ages appear to range from six to early teens," said INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble in a press release.

The agency acted after an investigation of about 200 photographs posted on the Internet showing the suspect sexually abusing underage boys. The search for the suspect has been dubbed Vico, because investigators believe that the photographs had been taken in Vietnam and Cambodia. All photos have been taken before December 2004.

Anders Persson, a Swedish police officer who oversees Interpol's database of images of child abuse, told AP that he believes the people in his neighborhood, like family friends and colleagues, will recognize him and announce the authorities. He personally opposed the decision to make the photos public, because it shows that police can now unblur (some) blurred pictures. Eventually, the desire to stop this guy from abusing more children prevailed.
