“Lost” actress Michelle Rodriguez is shown no clemency over her celebrity status and has been sentenced to six months in jail for violating her probation from several DUI charges.
Michelle Rodriguez has broken the law one too many times and this time around, she will be spending time behind bars, according to E! Online, who received confirmation from L.A. City Attorney's Office spokesman Frank Mateljan.
A message posted Oct. 10 on Michelle’s official website reads “Yes, it's true. But Michelle is Michelle, so no worries. Check back.”
The 29-year-old actress, who has starred in “The Fast and the Furious” and “Resident Evil” must turn herself in to Los Angeles County Jail by Christmas Eve, after which she is required to serve the entire 180-day sentence. Due to her previous trespasses, she has been deemed ineligible for either community service or house arrest, reports E! Online.
According to the City Attorney’s Office, she lied about completing 30 hours of court-ordered community service, submitting files that stated she completed her duty on Sept. 25. Mateljan said there was evidence that proved she was actually in New York that day.
Michelle also consumed alcohol three times while wearing an alcohol-monitoring bracelet.
She “admitted violation of her probation by failing to provide proof of community service and by consuming alcohol three times while wearing an alcohol monitoring device,” Mateljan said.
“She did file a document that said she completed community service on 25 September, but we obtained evidence that she was in New York that day,” he said.
This comes after Michelle was sentenced to three years' probation in L.A. in 2004 after pleading no contest to three offences: misdemeanor DUI, hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license, reports E! Online.
In 2005, she was arrested once more on another drink-driving charge, this time in Hawaii, where she was filming her part as Ana Lucia on the hit series “Lost.” She pleaded guilty to one charge of driving under the influence and chose to spend five days in an Oahu jail instead of doing 240 hours of community service.
As a result of violating her L.A. – based probation, Michelle was sentenced to 60 days in jail in 2006, but served only a few hours because of overcrowding.
She was also ordered to have alcohol rehabilitation treatment, do 30 days of community service – which she still has to complete, along with her 6 months in jail - and stay on probation until June 2009.
Michelle has been cast in James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi film “Avatar” and was set to begin filming in New Zealand in October, according to her website.
She can next be seen in “Battle in Seattle,” a drama co-starring Charlize Theron, Andre Benjamin, and Ray Liotta.
