Foxy Brown, currently serving a 1-year sentence in a New York prison, refused to board the facility’s bus for a court hearing last week because her hair was not done.
Foxy lived up to her reputation as a demanding diva when she refused to be taken to court in Brooklyn, New York last Friday. She is currently serving her sentence at Rikers Island (and is also currently known as Rikers Island Inmate #3470701776, per TMZ.com).
She was supposed to appear early Friday morning to be arraigned at Kings County Supreme Court on charges of hitting a woman with her BlackBerry in July, but she was apparently not ready. Foxy, real name Inga Marchand, had allegedly not finished putting on her make-up and doing her hair.
That was the first time she refused to board the prison bus; a second time she was asked to leave she declined once more, this time claiming she wanted to have lunch first. Her third refusal was not justified.
“She wanted to have an opportunity to change her clothes and put on makeup and be a bit more prettied up for court,” said prosecutor Robert Isdith, reports the New York Post.
Judge John Ingram finally rescheduled the arraignment for Tuesday, Oct. 16. TMZ.com reports that he told Foxy’s lawyer, Alan Stutman, that he would issue a force order compelling her to board the bus if she attempted to repeat the episode.
Foxy was arrested in early August after a female Brooklyn neighbor filed a complaint against her, claiming she had been attacked with a BlackBerry. The woman allegedly required medical attention and the attack resulted in a black eye, swollen lip and loose teeth.
Not long after this incident, Foxy was arrested in New Jersey for driving on a suspended license and leaving New York without permission. As she had not followed previous court-ordered anger management classes, the judge decided enough had occurred to send Foxy to jail.
“Probation is a gift that is given to the defendant and I feel very strongly that I gave her the chance to do what she wanted with her life,” Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson said when she sentenced the rapper to jail in mid-September.
Rumors had begun to circulate that the rapper was pregnant, but manager Chaz Williams cut the baby talk short when Foxy was sentenced to jail time. Her career will not be put on hold, however, with a new album titled “Brooklyn's Don Diva” due for release later this year via Koch Records.
