Rockies Complete the Sweep and Make It to the World Series

The Colorado Rockies didn’t disappoint their fans attending the decisive match at the Coors Field. Most of them were waving white towels or holding brooms and chanting "Too-Low!" as their favorites swept the Arizona Diamondbacks by beating them 6-4 on Monday night to make it to the World Series for the first time in their 15-year history.

The Diamondbacks scored first through Conor Jackson's third-inning single to take the 1-0 lead, but in the fourth inning the Rockies regained control and first earned the 2-1 lead as Seth Smith hit a two-run double. Then Kaz Matsui made it a 3-1 game with a single to center.

Matt Holliday, who was voted the Most Valuable Player of the NLCS, gave the go-ahead as he hit a three-run home run which earned the Rockies a 6-1 lead and held off the Diamondbacks to win the best-of-seven NLCS in four games.

The Rockies managed to win 21 of its past 22 games in the league including seven straight in the Major League Baseball playoffs to capture the NL pennant. They had won exactly 14 matches of the last 15 of the regular season in order to make it to the playoffs as the league's wild card representative.

They will play in the World Series which starts Oct. 24 whoever emerges victorious out of the Cleveland Indians - Boston Red Sox clash.

“This has been a great ride and we're not done yet,'' Rockies first baseman Todd Helton said on TV. ``We're going to keep it going.''

Colorado is only the second team to win their first seven games in a postseason after the Cincinnati Reds did it in 1976 and they’re also the first team to sweep a division series and championship series since 1995, when baseball's playoffs expanded.

“We don't really talk about it. This club has had a great focus all season long about turning the page and focusing on the next game. This is pretty incredible.'' said Matt Holliday.
