Foxy Brown was quite the diva last week when she repeatedly refused to be taken to court but Tuesday she finally showed up and pleaded not guilty to assault charges.
Foxy Brown seemed stoic in September when she was sentenced to 1 year behind bars after attacking a woman with her BlackBerry and repeatedly violating her probation. In a statement issued at the time, she said: “This is just a temporary situation. I made my bed and have no problem lying in it. My will is steady. What doesn't kill me will only make me stronger.”
She was singing a different tune last week however, as she reportedly refused to board a Rikers Prison bus three times for a scheduled court hearing, apparently because, first, her hair and make-up were not ready and second, because she wished to have lunch before going to court. The third time was not explained.
Judge John Ingram rescheduled the arraignment for Tuesday, Oct. 16 and warned that if she refused once more to come, the court would issue a force order allowing correction officers to put her in handcuffs and force her onto a bus.
Foxy, real name Inga Marchand, showed up Tuesday at Brooklyn State Supreme Court, “wearing casual street clothing,” reports the Associated Press.
The rapper pleaded not guilty to charges of assault. The plea was entered by her attorney, John Sampson, the district attorney's office said. It was in late July that the incident reportedly occurred, when a Brooklyn neighbor complained to Foxy about the volume on her car stereo and Foxy threw a cell phone at her.
The woman, 25-year-old Arlene Raymond, reportedly needed medical attention and suffered a swollen lip and loose teeth.
Foxy was arraigned on charges of assault, attempted assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon (the cell phone), according to the AP. Judge Ingram extended Raymond's order of protection to Dec. 18, 2008, and ordered Brown back in court Dec. 17, the agency reports.
Foxy was arrested in New Jersey in August for driving on a suspended license and leaving New York without permission. As she had not followed previous court-ordered anger management classes, the judge decided enough had occurred to send Foxy to jail.
