Boy-band teenage heartthrobs Jonas Brothers marked the
third-biggest opening week of the year, landing atop The Billboard 200 with
their first No. 1 album, “A Little Bit Longer,” which sold 525,000 copies in
the U.S.
for the week ended August 17, according to figures released by Nielsen
SoundScan on Wednesday.
The album achieved the third-highest sales figure of this
year, following Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter III,” with 1,006,000 copies, and
Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends,” with 721,000 copies.
The trio also managed the rare feat of having two albums at
the same time in the top 10 of the U.S. chart, “Jonas Brothers” rising
one spot from No. 11 to No. 10 with sales of 31,000, dropping only 4 percent
from last week. It’s the first time a group accomplishes such a performance
since the much successful boy band ‘N Sync had two albums on the January 2,
1999 chart, with “Home for Christmas” on the 10th spot and “’N Sync”
on the second position.
If that’s not enough, wait till you hear that the soundtrack
to the Disney production “Camp
Rock,” which stars –
guess who? - the Jonas Brothers, lingers on No. 8 for the second consecutive
week, selling 50,000 copies and gaining 6 percent compared to last week.
That’s about it with the Jonas Brother mania.
Moving forward, last week’s No. 1, the soundtrack to “Mamma
Mia!,” dropped on the second spot with only 110,000 units, while Kid Rock’s
“Rock N Roll Jesus” claimed the third position with 101,000 copies. Miley Cyrus
leaves the top 3 of the chart, slipping from No. 2 to No. 4, with only 85,000
sold copies of her “Breakout.”
The sweet Sugarland’s “Love on the Inside” also leaves the
three front positions and falls from the third spot to the fifth, as Lil
Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” goes down one spot to No. 6 with 62,000 copies. Following
the rapper, Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” fell one
position selling 50,000 units. Rihanna does not leave the top 10 and stays put
at No. 9 with 42,000 sold copies of “Good Girl Gone Bad.”
Other top 50 debuts this week were Daddy Yankee’s soundtrack
to “Talento de Barrio,” which landed on the thirteenth position, Yung Berg’s
“Look What You Made Me” on No. 20 and New Kids on the Block with “Greatest
Hits” on No. 22.
