Troubled pop singer Britney Spears was ordered in March to pay $375,000 to her ex Kevin Federline’s lawyers for representing him in their long, drawn-out custody battle for their two young boys. This came after she footed a $120,000 legal bill for K-Fed in November.
That totals up to $495,000 Britney paid just to her ex husband’s legal team. In mid July she ultimately settled the custody case with Federline without going to court and he now has sole physical and legal custody of Sean Preston, who turns three next month, and Jayden James, nearly two. Britney has three visitations a week with her sons plus one overnight. However, the lawyers hammering out the details for the custody agreement are costing Britney dearly. One of her lawyers wants over $300,000 in legal fees.
Lawyer Stacy D Phillips is seeking $407,000 for four months work, but Britney is expected to contest the sum when the figures are finalized by a Los Angeles court commissioner. Britney’s former divorce attorney Laura Wasser ended up completing the case and her bill is a comparatively reasonable $60,000 for two months worth of work.
Britney married Federline, who was a backup dancer at the time, in 2004 and divorced after two years of marriage and two sons. The singer currently pays him $20,000 a month under an agreement finalized in July.
Stacy D Phillips claims in court documents that the case was made more complicated because Britney is under the temporary conservatorship of her father, James. He took control of his daughter's personal and financial affairs after a series of high-profile incidents of erratic behavior and two hospitalizations.
In other news, many rumors have been making the rounds online lately claming Britney might be preparing for another MTV Video Music Awards' performance. She’s already recorded promotional spots for the awards show with the new host, comic Russell Brand.
