Heather Locklear chose the wrong place and the wrong time
for an emotional breakdown.
We all go through this at some point but we usually avoid
blocking traffic and stars should give it a shot, too.
They should take into account that the more accustomed you
are with the spotlight, the more predisposed you are to enter its trap. And
Heather Locklear did so. She sure managed to draw some public attention,
though.
The 47-year-old actress was arrested on Saturday afternoon in
the Santa Barbara
area on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription drugs. She was
pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer after a “concerned citizen” announced
authorities that he had seen the former “Dynasty” star “driving erratically” while
she was trying to make her way out of a parking lot.
After the resident’s call, the officer found Heather
Locklear’s vehicle parked on a state highway and blocking a lane in Montecito,
a well-off community located approximately 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Moreover,
she was reportedly believed to be alone in the car.
The actress did not seem clear-headed and was taken to the
police station, where she underwent some tests meant to establish whether she
was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. However, according to a statement
released by the California Highway Patrol, Heather Locklear had not consumed
alcohol. “She was evaluated by a drug recognition expert, who concluded Ms.
Locklear was under the influence of a controlled substance, and could not
safely operate a motor vehicle,” the California Highway Patrol said in the
statement.
In spite of the fact that the star’s representatives were
not immediately available for comment, authorities reported that Heather
Locklear was released from custody without having to post bail.
The actress was married to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee
from May 1986 to August 1993. After divorcing the musician, she tied the knot
with Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora on December 17, 1994, in Paris. Although they have
a daughter together, Ava Elizabeth, the couple divorced last year. What’s more,
according to papers filed by Richie Sambora, he and Heather Locklear had been
separated since December 26, 2005.
Earlier this year, the “Melrose Place” star checked into a
medical facility in Arizona
citing psychological issues including anxiety and depression and reportedly
asked for a detailed examination of her medication so as to receive appropriate
diagnosis and treatment.
Heather Locklear gained popularity after Aaron Spelling cast
her in the role of Sammy Jo Dean in the second season of his back-then dearly
loved television series “Dynasty.” In the 1990s, the actress would become even
more famous for her role in the hit drama “Melrose Place.” Although she was
initially brought as a guest star in the show, she filled the shoes of
underhanded Amanda Woodward until the series’ 1999 cancellation.
Heather Locklear was subsequently cast on the TV sitcom “Spin City”
and also starred in the short-lived drama “LAX” in 2004.
The actress’ film credits include “Money Talks,” “The
Perfect Man,” “Uptown Girls” and “Sydney White.”
