Miley Cyrus Speaks About The Vanity Fair Photos

Two months ago the photos of Miley Cyrus taken by the famous photographer Annie Leibovitz during a photo shoot for Vanity Fair have ignited a huge media controversy. In an interview for Billboard magazine Miley Cyrus speaks about the photos and her upcoming album.

Two months ago, in April, young pop sensation Miley Cyrus was in the midst of the first major scandal of her career. Inappropriate photographs leaked on the internet to the great confusion and anger of parents of “Hannah Montana” fans, who want their children to look up to a wholesome Miley Cyrus, not a sexy Miley Cyrus.

The drop that tilted the glass was a photo shoot the 15-year-old singer did with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair, which included a photo showing Miley’s bare back as she clutches a silk sheet to her chest. With tousled hair and a pouty look, the Disney star had the appeal of a Lolita. The photos were made for the June issue of Vanity Fair.

Shortly after the photos appeared on the Web, Miley Cyrus issued an apology

"My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie [Leibovitz]. I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," the 15-year-old singer/actress said at the time in a statement.

Talking with Billboard about her upcoming album “Breakout", Miley Cyrus rememberd how she felt after the pictures have appeared.

"I was embarrassed," Miley Cyrus said, "but also it's like, every career thing that I do can't be perfect, and sometimes my decisions are wrong. I think that just makes me even more relatable”.

Though, Miley admitted that she is still hurt when thinking about the photos, but she is focused on the future.

“I don't think people will look at me any differently because they're like, 'You know what, I'm going to do stupid stuff too, and I'm going to make mistakes, and that's fine.' It still hurts when I think about it -- but you know what, it doesn't mean that you can't move on”, Miley said.

The teen pop sensation is set to release her first full-length album "Breakout" under her own name on July 22. Miley’s previous two albums were released under her Disney moniker, "Hannah Montana." The album is being released through Disney’s Hollywood Records and her first single, "7 Things” is already a hit on the radio stations.

“It's grown-up," Miley Cyrus said about her album. She wrote almost all the songs for the album. “My last [record] was more just meeting me, finding out who I am, and here, it's more getting in depth of what's been going on in my life in the past year."

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus is filming the first fictional feature film based on Disney's wildly popular series "Hannah Montana".

Also starring "Hannah Montana" regulars Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Mitchel Musso, Moises Arias and Billy Ray Cyrus, the movie, written by Dan Berendsen and directed by Peter Chelson, is scheduled for a spring 2009 release. Others joining the usual gang will be Melora Hardin, Margo Martindale, Barry Bostwick, Peter Gunn, Lucas Till and Vanessa Williams.

This year's 3-D release of "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" comprising concert footage and behind-the-scenes clips from Miley Cyrus’ 2007 sell-out Best of Both Worlds Tour, raked in $65.3 million at the box office.

Miley Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus, started out with a squeaky-clean image as star of the Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana,” which debuted in 2006. Her portrayal of Miley Stewart, a high school student who leads a double life as Hannah Montana, pop sensation, and subsequent projects related to the series, such as concerts and a movie, were always laced with good role-model material.
