Miley Cyrus is so popular that she can break just any record
and sell just any material. The Vanity Fair issue that contained the
15-year-old star’s contentious photos proved to be the magazine’s highest
seller thus far this year. And what’s more, Miley’s “Breakout” from the “Hannah
Montana” persona debuted by claiming the number one spot of the Nielsen
SoundScan chart, selling an impressive 371,000 copies in the week ended July
27. Her success represents the second-biggest sales week of the year for a
female artist, following the 463,000 entrance of Mariah Carey’s “E=MC2” in
April.
Miley Cyrus’ previous album, “Hannah Montana 2
(Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus,” also broke onto the charts at No. 1 last July,
by selling 326,000 copies, while the first “Hannah Montana” soundtrack, which
set Miley off in her recording career, also headed up at No. 1 two years ago,
with first-week sales of 281,000.
However, the teen idol’s job was not easy, as she was
seriously challenged by Sugarland, who sold 314,000 copies of “Love on the Inside”, but
landed only on the second spot.
Furthermore, the “Mamma Mia!” soundtrack practically doubled
its sales for a second consecutive week, 168,000 copies being purchased and maintaining
the album on its third position.
Nine Inch Nails’ “The Slip” made its market debut by selling
29,000 copies, and claiming position No. 13, approximately three months after
it was released for free of charge purchase. Moreover, other two albums made
their entrances and sold 14,000 copies each, more precisely Candlebox’s first
album in 10 years, “Into
the Sun” at No. 32 and Noel Gourdin’s “After My Time” at No. 36.
