Hulk Hogan’s 18-year-old son Nick Bollea was released from Pinellas
County Jail in Florida
Tuesday morning after serving little over half of his eight-month sentence for reckless
driving involving serious bodily injury.
Nick Bollea, the teenage son of wrestling star Hulk Hogan,
real name Terry Bollea, was involved in a car accident in August 2007 that
changed his life. He and a friend were driving in Clearwater, Florida
one August evening, Bollea at the wheel and the pal, John Graziano, in the
passenger seat, when a terrible accident took place.
Bollea lost control of the vehicle, a yellow Toyota Supra
owned by his father, which fishtailed across a median strip and hit a palm
tree. Both young men were hurt and flown to Bayfront
Medical Center
in St. Petersburg.
Bollea was released the following day but Graziano had sustained
serious injuries. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the
crash. The 22-year-old, a former Marine, remains hospitalized to this day. He will
need medical care for the rest of his life.
Bollea was charged with reckless driving involving serious
bodily injury, punishable by up to 5 years in prison, and sentenced to
eight months behind bars as well as five years probation. The years of
probation include performing 500 hours of community service, not being allowed to
consume alcohol and having his driver’s license revoked for three years.
He pleaded no contest to the charge in May and entered a Florida county jail that
same day. He is being released early for good behavior and working. Jail officials
have said that this is standard procedure for all inmates.
As he left the facility Tuesday morning, Bollea was welcomed
by his older sister Brooke and a throng of paparazzi. He did not answer any
questions, hugged his visibly excited sister and the two of them drove away in
Brooke’s car.
He has served 166 days of his sentence.
