Nokia to Launch ‘Comes With Music’ Phone In United Kingdom In The 4Q

Nokia Corp, the world's largest producer of mobile phones, made public on Tuesday its plans to launch in the United Kingdom its new handset that features “Comes With Music,” a service which enables users to download as much as 2.1 million music tracks during the first year and this without paying extra.

The new Nokia 5310 XpressMusic handset will be launched sometime in the 4th quarter and will be retailed through Carphone Warehouse PLC. The device is intended to counter the Apple Inc-produced iPhone 3G which enables its users to download about four times more music tracks on their PCs. From the computer, the tracks can be moved into the handset, but after the first 12 months a new phone would have to be purchased in order to still benefit from the service.

However, “Comes With Music” users will be able to use the tracks on their computer for ever and “without any catches” - “a unique proposition,” as Simon Ainslie, Nokia's UK Managing Director described it.

Espoo, Finland-based Nokia did not say anything about price of the 5310 XpressMusic, a handset which gives unlimited free access in the first 12 months to tunes from the Nokia Music Store. However, the expected price is between £100 or £300.

"With unlimited music access for a year, you can enjoy your favorite artists or delve into new genres without having to worry about individual track or album purchases," said Tero Ojanpera, head of Nokia's Entertainment and Communities business.

Nokia intends to become a “one-stop shop for services, using music as a pillar to its offering," as CCS Insight analyst Paolo Pescatore put it, CNNMoney.com reported.
