Only 2,676 Claim Damages Over “Hot Coffee” Scandal

The New York Times revealed that only 2,676 people have claimed damages from Take Two over the “Hot Coffee” scandal. The lawyers seem to be disappointed by the low number of consumers who have decided to request money.

You probably remember the big scandal in which Take Two was involved a few years ago when Rockstar launched Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It all started when somebody published on the Internet a small utility called “Hot Coffee,” which was unblocking a mini sex game in GTA: San Andreas.

Take Two was forced to pull off the game from the store shelves and GTA: San Andreas was re-rated by ESRB as M (Mature).

However, several plaintiffs have filed a class-action lawsuit, saying that they wouldn't have purchased the game if they had known about the offensive content.

Earlier this year, Take Two agreed to settle the lawsuit, by paying between $5 and $35 in compensation to each person that bought the game and was offended by the hidden sex scenes.

Because only 2,676 people demanded the sum, Take Two will have to pay only $30,000 and the company agreed to make a charitable donation of $860,000 to ESRB.

Meanwhile, the lawyers from the law firms who launched the suit are reportedly seeking more than $1.3 million in fees.
