Out Of Shape? Wii Will Keep You Fit!

Innovation is just one of the words that can describe Nintendo’s Wii Fit, a combination of dynamic activities and fun games, which is said to be one of this year’s blockbusters in the industry. The U.S. launch, which is set for today, addresses a large array of customers, but is expected to become a hit among women.

The product is ideal for the whole family, and it’s been a major success in Japan ever since its launch in December last year, where it managed to sell over 1.5 million copies. The U.S. success, most believe, is practically ensured.

The launch comes at a time when people become more aware of the unhealthy habits in their life and search for ways to stay in shape and keep a healthy lifestyle; and what can be easier than doing it in the comfort of your own home?

Wii Fit comes with a pressure sensitive balance-board that can be used for all sorts of dynamic activities, such as aerobic, yoga, muscle stretches and games, and emphasizes on slow and controlled motions. It also includes as much as 40 different activities.

The training activities fall into four fitness categories: Aerobic Exercise (10-minute exercises that are designed to get the heart pumping), Muscle Conditioning (Controlled motions using arms, legs and other body parts), Yoga Poses (Classic poses that focus on balance and stretching), and Balance Games (Fun activities, such as ski jumping and heading soccer balls, which challenge the player’s overall body balance).

Although it may not solve one’s weight problems, its developers say it promotes a healthy life style and is an interactive guide to activities that help people keep in shape and have fun at the same time. Wii Fit will act like a gym with a personal trainer included, tracking and monitoring the progress of a maximum of 8 people.

With the largest marketing launch in the company’s history, Wii Fit will become an instant hit in the U.S., Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter said, adding that it will sell 3 to 4 million units in the United States alone.
