Paul McCartney Agrees To Sell His Music Online

The former Beatle has finally decided to have his solo albums sold online via digital downloads for the first time, increasing speculation that his work with the Beatles is next.

The singer’s former record company, EMI, said on Monday they’re preparing all McCartney’s solo albums to be released in an online catalog as well as re-released on all physical formats.

"Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles catalog, spanning four decades, is one of the great treasures of popular music," said Tony Wadsworth, chairman & CEO of EMI Music UK.

"EMI is proud to be introducing Paul’s music to the digital marketplace."

An EMI spokesperson added that the digital media would not contain copy protection, claiming that: "Our digital campaign will be DRM-free."

Apple Inc. released an announcement today saying they will be offering an iTunes-exclusive preorder of Paul McCartney’s new album, "Memory Almost Full." All 25 albums belonging to McCartney will be available through iTunes starting later this month.

The new solo album is the first released from Hear Music, the new music publishing group formed by Starbucks Entertainment and Concord Music Group.

"Paul McCartney is one of the greatest musicians of all time, and we’re extremely excited to offer his first digitally distributed album on iTunes," Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, said.

And Paul McCartney said: "I'm thrilled to let fans experience (the new album) in a whole new way. There's no better time to make this music available through iTunes."
