A former “American Idol” contestant who had professed her
admiration for Paula Abdul on the show was found dead in her car Tuesday night
near the judge’s Los Angeles
home.
Paula Goodspeed’s story has come to a tragic end. The
30-year-old woman appeared on “American Idol” during the show’s fifth season
and said in an interview with host Ryan Seacrest before auditioning that she
greatly admired judge Paula Abdul. Her subsequent performance of “Proud Mary”
did not impress the judges at the time and she was rejected.
The woman was found dead in her car Tuesday night, in what
appears to have been a suicide. Los
Angeles police Capt. James Miller said Goodspeed’s
mother had gone to the Sherriff’s Department to report her missing. The worried
mother told officers she through Goodspeed may be suicidal, reports People.com.
Officers determined they may find Goodspeed somewhere around
Paula Abdul’s house and proceeded to search for her there. Goodspeed’s car was
found parked on the street a few doors down from Abdul’s house. The woman was
unresponsive. LAPD officer April Harding told the magazine Goodspeed’s death
has been ruled an apparent suicide, from a drug overdose.
While auditioning for “American Idol,” Goodspeed said she
was a big fan of Paula Abdul’s and that she had made life-size drawings of the
singer and actress. She even showed some of them and said she had been drawing
Paula Abdul’s portrait since she was a little girl.
The car Goodspeed was found in, registered to her according
to People, had a vanity license plate reading “ABL LV” and had a photo of Abdul
hanging from the rearview mirror.
Paula Abdul was at the studio when Goodspeed was found, her
rep told the magazine. In a statement, the singer-actress said she was “deeply
shocked and saddened.”
Paula Goodspeed had apparently spent quite some time around
her idol’s house, with Capt. Miller telling People she had been causing
“disturbance” there for years.
