"American Idol" judge Paula Abdul received some very upsetting news Tuesday afternoon when the body of one of her most devoted fans was found dead outside her home.
In a disturbing and sad turn of events, the body of a woman, who is believed to have been a stalker known to Paula Abdul and her security team, was discovered dead in a car outside the "American Idol" judge's house last night.
A statement released by Abdul's rep said the singer was "shocked and saddened" by the incident in which a 30-year-old woman was found dead in a parked car outside her Los Angeles home on Tuesday.
"I am deeply saddened and shocked about what transpired yesterday," she was quoted by Access Hollywood as saying. "My heart and prayers go out to her family.”
According to reports, when the 30 year-old woman went missing, her parents told cops to look outside Abdul's house in Sherman Oaks, California, as they were pretty sure that is where she was. They were right as their daughter was found and pronounced dead at the scene on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
"Our Van Nuys division did receive a call from the Ventura County’s Sheriff. A woman’s parents reported her missing and they thought that she may be at Paula Abdul’s house," a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, Officer Karen Smith, told Access.
Apparently, the woman had been an "extreme" fan and was known to Abdul and her security for "several years," her rep added. Over the years, Police was reportedly called at Abdul's hose numerous times to deal with her. The woman's car license plate read "ABL LV" and inside a picture of Abdul hung from the rear-view mirror.
There were no signs of foul play and the cause of death is thought to be suicide by drug overdose. Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the woman while awaiting a coroner’s report to verify the cause of death.
"This has been ruled an apparent suicide," said LAPD officer April Harding, "and the coroner's office is now investigating. The body was found around 6 p.m. Tuesday."
Abdul was not at home at the time and was away taping an episode of "American Idol." She returned late in the evening after the scene had been cleared. At least Abdul was not hurt and no bystanders were harmed in the tragic incident.
