“American
Idol” story made a turn for the worst this Tuesday, when former wanna-be
contestant on the popular show and obsessed fan of Paula Abdul Paula Goodspeed
was found dead just outside Abdul’s home in Sherman Oaks, California.
Goodspeed auditioned for the „American Idol” show back in
2006 and had been allegedly stalking „Idol” judge Paula Abdul for a while
before her unexpected death this week.
Authorities believe that the 30-year-old woman committed
suicide by deliberately taking a drug overdose, adding that when they arrived
at the scene, Goodspeed had a photo of Abdul in her car, along with several of
her CDs, while her license plates read ABL LV-Abdul Love.
Moreover, in a post on her MySpace page, Paula Goodspeed had
revealed that the „Idol” judge was her secret crush, whereas media reports
stated that her real name was actually Sandra, but that she had changed it in
order to resemble Abdul more.
One day before she killed herself, Goodspeed sent flowers to
the „Idol” judge, alongside a note that featured her new cellphone number.
In 2006, Paula Abdul’s fan appeared before the show’s three
judges all dressed in pink and seized the moment to proclaim her love for Abdul.
Nevertheless, she failed to make a good impression on the „American Idol”
judges, since her singing skills fell way below par as she performed a
rendition of the song „Proud Mary.” At that time, the show’s judge Simon Cowell
mocked Goodspeed by telling her that no artist could perform with that much
metal in their mouth, bluntly referring to the woman’s braces.
His comment prompted much criticism, people voicing their disapproval
of the judges making fun of contestants on national television without giving
it a second thought.
Even so, despite this Tuesday tragedy, many believe that
Paula Goodspeed’s death will actually increase the show’s popularity, since her
suicide has brought „American Idol” under the spotlight recently.
