Two military jets collided during a routine training mission carried out on Friday in Nevada. One of the fighter pilots died in the incident.

The fighter jets collided at 12:10 p.m. about 50 miles east of the Fallon Naval Air Station.
U.S. Navy spokesman Zip Upham said two pilots managed to eject from an F-5 Tiger and made it alive, but the pilot of Oceana-based F/A-18C wasn’t so lucky, the Fallon Air Station said in a pres release.  

The incident occurred near the town of Middlegate, some 110 miles east of Reno. The two pilots who ejected were rescued about 50 miles east of the air station. They are currently in Banner Churchill Medical Center in Fallon receiving medical treatment.

The names of the pilots involved in the collision will be released after their families are notified. The cause of the crash is unknown but it is currently under investigation.

The air base form where the F-5 Tiger took off is located nearly 60 miles east of Reno and it’s the home of the Navy's elite Strike and Air Warfare Center.

The F-5 Tiger was assigned to Naval Air Station Fallon, while the F/A-18C Hornet, a jets used in Operation Desert Storm, was assigned to Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
