Police Searching for Father of Child Found Dead near Road

Texas police managed to identify the father of the baby recently found dead on the side of a Galveston street. The 21-year-old was called by the state police of interest in the child’s death, MyFoxHouston reported Wednesday.

The wanted man is Travis Mullis, who was identified as the biological father of the dead infant, after the mother said it was hers and had it with him. She was called by the police on Tuesday and told that she hadn’t seen her 4-month-old baby since Mullis took him that morning.

Later that day, the corpse of the infant was discovered by a couple who was bird-watching. Jesse James Zaro Jr. said that they first mistaken the dead child for a doll, but soon found out the horrific truth. They also found the baby’s safety car seat near his body.

"It was horrible," he said. "I went to pieces. I couldn't believe it."

The safety car seat made investigator believe that the infant might have been thrown from a moving car in the area called Cherry Hill.

The child apparently suffered severe head trauma after the impact with the ground and this was most likely the cause of the 4-moth-old’s death.

Galveston police Lt. Jorge Trevino said the father of the dead infant, had left with the child from Alvin at about 5 a.m. to get the car fixed. A few hours later, the baby’s mother began calling hospitals because she became concerned about her son because the father hadn't left with a "lot of provisions for the baby."

A hospital contacted the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office, which called police. The mother was then contacted by police and told them about the missing baby.

The baby was taken to the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office. His body had only been in the grass a short time as it was found in a good condition and had not been attacked by animals. No obvious marks were found on the infant’s body, which suggests that he wasn’t hit before falling from the vehicle.
