After long days of searching and numerous rumours appearing in the press, a Portuguese police official made an unwanted statement saying Madeleine McCann may be dead.
One of the main investigators leading the search for Madeleine, said in an interview that the four-year-old girl may have been killed. His statement is supported by recent evidence found in the bedroom Madeleine was staying when she mysteriously disappeared on May 3.
“In the past few days there have been some developments and clues that have been found that could point to the possible death of this child,” Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa told the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
One hundred days have passed since the British girl vanished and investigators couldn’t find a solid evidence that would offer any information about Madeleine’s fate or point out at a suspect. The police initially said everyone is a potential suspect, but on Saturday Sousa ruled out that the girl’s parents could be included in this circle.
After a thorough examination of the hotel room in Praia da Luz, detectives found traces of blood that could belong to Madeleine. The probes were taken to Britain and results are expected to be made public this week.
Meanwhile, Kate and Gerry McCann made another call to people on Saturday to support their search and keep on praying for their daughter.
“Please continue to accompany us on the journey of hope and please keep Madeleine in your thoughts and prayers,” the aggrieved mother said.
