Tuesday,
the Chicago police revealed that they had charged
Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law William Balfour with the murders of the
actress-singer’s mother, brother and nephew, adding the evidence was enough for
a conviction to follow.
Authorities informed that the murder weapon, physical
evidence they had, along with a testimony were sufficient for a jury to decide
to convict 27-year-old Balfour in the case.
Moreover, they stated that the man, who is the estranged
husband of Jennifer Hudson's elder sister, Julia, had committed the murders on
October 24 (victims being Hudson’s mother and brother) after he had had a
domestic fight with his wife.
At that time, the Oscar-winning actress’ mother Darnell
Donerson, 57, and brother, Jason Hudson, 29, were both found dead at the former’s
home on the South Side of Chicago.
Four days later, Julian King’s body, Hudson’s nephew and
Julia’s son, aged 7, was found in the West Side neighbourhood inside an SUV,
while nearby, the murder weapon was discovered by the police.
William Balfour was charged with the three murders and is
also facing a home invasion charge. His mother Michele Balfour has told
reporters that Balfour was innocent claiming that the police had relied on one
of his girlfriends’ testimony, who was facing a drug charge.
Furthermore, she added that her son loved Darnell Donerson
even more than he did her.
Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis revealed that the
girlfriend’s testimony had not been obtained in exchange for a deal concerning
her own drug charges.
