Los Angeles - Tiny Nate Robinson provided the energy off the bench, and Wilson Chandler made the most of his minutes, in his first preseason start for the New York Knicks.
Robinson scored 26 points and Chandler had 22 as the visiting Knicks held off a late charge to nip their cross-river rival New Jersey Nets, 114-106 on Monday night.
"I thought Nate Robinson was tremendous and Chandler was very good for them early," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "They brought a lot of energy."
"We're the energy group so we've got to bring energy to help this team get to the next level," said Robinson, a 5-foot-9 mighty mite.
Chandler, filling in for power forward David Lee (right ankle sprain) made 10-of-15 floor shots and grabbed eight rebounds in his 30-minute stint.
Quentin Richardson had 15 points and newcomer Chris Duhon collected 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the up-tempo style of new coach Mike D'Antoni's Knicks (3-2), who earned their second consecutive win.
The Knicks extended a nine-point halftime lead to 91-73 late in the third quarter, but had it sliced to 105-101 on rookie Brook Lopez's layup with 2 1/2 minutes left to play.
After Robinson answered with a runner with 1:46 left, Lopez hit two free throws, again pulling the Nets within four. Robinson then spotted Mardy Collins, who drained a 3-pointer with 1:07 left for a 110-103 advantage that helped seal the win.
Devin Harris scored 21 points for the Nets (2-3) who have dropped three in a row since sweeping Miami in Europe last week. Lopez, substituting for centre Josh Boone (rapid heartbeat) had 19 points and nine rebounds.
Elsewhere: Phoenix Suns 111, Charlotte Bobcats 108 (2 OT) Matt Barnes made two timely baskets in the final half-minute of the second overtime, and the Suns kept new coach Larry Brown and his visiting Bobcats winless through six preseason games.
Trailing by three, Robert Hite's jumper drew the Suns within 108-107, setting the stage for Barnes. The backup forward hit the go-ahead eight-footer with 30 seconds left and added a layup, just before the final buzzer.
Barnes and Shaquille O'Neal led the Suns (3-3) with 18 points apiece. Amare Stoudemire, making his preseason debut, had 11 in 17 minutes. However, all-star guard Steve Nash sat out the contest, after re-injuring his sore right ankle in practice on Sunday.
Rookie D.J. Augustin led the Bobcats with 19 points, but shot just 4-of-20 from the field. Jason Richardson finished with 15 points.
Portland Trail Blazers 112, Sacramento Kings 98 LaMarcus Aldridge scored 24 points and Brandon Roy added 21, as the visiting Trail Blazers bounced the Kings, in preseason action.
Spanish guard Rudy Fernandez had 16 points with four 3-pointers off the bench for Portland (3-2) while fellow-rookie Greg Oden finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Kevin Martin poured in a game-high 34 points for Sacramento (1-6) and John Salmons tallied 27.
Orlando Magic 109, Atlanta Hawks 103 Dwight Howard had 29 points with 11 rebounds, and rookie Courtney Lee added 11 of his 13 points in the final quarter, helping the visiting Magic edge the Hawks.
Rashard Lewis scored 23 points for Orlando (5-1), which split a pair of preseason meetings with Atlanta.
Joe Johnson topped the Hawks (4-3) with 26 points and Ronald Murray added 14.
Johnson's 3-pointer with 47 seconds left drew the Hawks within 104-103, but the all-star guard missed the potential go-ahead 13-foot jumper, 20 seconds later. Howard grabbed the rebound, drew the foul and split a pair of free throws, making it a two-point game.
With an opportunity to level the game, Atlanta's Mike Bibby (13 points) missed a jumper with 15 seconds remaining, and Lewis made four free throws at the other end to ice the victory.
