Sony has postponed the release of its new PlayStation 3 video game "LittleBigPlanet." The company motivated its move by saying that the lyrics of one of the video game’s background songs were questionable and considered offensive by Muslim groups.
Everything was set for a successful released of the video game. Several retailers were waiting in the back room to get their hands on the “LittleBigPlanet” and the game had a number of good reviews.
The problem was that one of the songs in the game’s soundtrack list was considered offensive by the Muslim community. The song performed by Malian musician Toumani Diabate reportedly contains two verses from Islam’s wholly book, the Qur'an. If you are a Christian, you may be wondering why all the fuss about this when countless songs quote the wholly Bible. Well, for the Muslims it doesn’t work that way. According to their set of beliefs, it is forbidden to mix scripture with music.
So Sony decided it doesn’t want to bother anybody, especially not the Muslims. The game was scheduled to be released on October 21, but now the company that produces it delayed the release. According to Yahoogames, the release was postponed for about one week.
"We sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible," was the statement of Sony’s U.S. director of Corporate Communications. The statement was posted on the PlayStation blog.
The game will most likely be released on October 28 and the song will be updated, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
The song which caused the delay is called "Tapha Niang" and includes lyrics in Arabic which translate into:
"Every soul shall taste of death" and "All that is on Earth shall perish."
