Store Security, Clearly Insufficient

Some images with holiday shoppers always astound America. We are not strangers to late Christmas shoppers who take over entire stores, pushing the doors open with sheer brute force. So far, however, there have been no casualties reported. Some people were committed to hospital because of injuries acquires in the full-fledged shopper stampede. This year, unfortunately, America witnessed the first casualty of shopping mania, as a result of the sale-craze brought on by post-Thanksgiving bargains.

Jdimytai Damour had the unfortunate task of opening the doors of a Wal-Mart store in Valley Stream, Long Island. According to police statements, people had been gathering in front of the store as early as 9 P.M. the night before. At 11 P.M., police reports claim that about 100 people were standing in front of the store, three times as many as there were at 9 P.M. At 3 A.M., there were about 500 people eagerly waiting for the store to open its doors. At 5 A.M., there were more than 2000 overly enthusiastic shoppers. When seasonal employee Jdimytai Damour opened the doors, the crowd trampled over him without sparing a thought, ending in the death of the staff member. Other Wal-Mart employees jumped to his aid, but it was too late.

Four other people were also rushed to the hospital, among which a woman who was eight months pregnant. The store was closed after the unfortunate incident for a couple of hours. Some of the customers were actually displeased that the store representatives wanted to close the store. Police officials are set on joining forces with store security employees to ensure that such an incident never occurs again.
