Los Angeles - All-Star centre Dwight Howard played alongside a pretty impressive group of guys like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, that helped the U.S. win the Olympic gold medal in Beijing last summer. He thinks this year's edition of his Orlando Magic squad is special as well.

Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu scored 22 points apiece as the Magic tamed the visiting Memphis Grizzlies 101-90 on Wednesday night, to close the preseason with six straight victories.

With the man-child Howard making his presence felt in the middle, the Magic enjoyed a banner season under head coach Stan Van Gundy. They went 52-30 to claim the Southeastern Division title, and advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

He thinks they can be even better, though.

"We have a special group of guys," Howard said following an 11-point, eight-rebound effort in just 23 minutes. "Not often you'll find a good group of guys play together like we do. This moment never comes to too many people like this."

Sharpshooting J.J. Redick added 15 points as the streaking Magic (6-1) are on a roll as they prepare for their regular-season home-opener against the Atlanta Hawks next Wednesday night.

Rookie Darrell Arthur had 18 points and Mike Conley added 13 for the Grizzlies (2-6) who never challenged after falling behind 53-33 at the half. Top scorer Rudy Gay missed his second straight contest with a staph infection.

Memphis opens on the road on Wednesday nigh against the Houston Rockets.

Elsewhere: Philadelphia 76ers 118, New Jersey Nets 100 Lou Williams and rookie Marreese Speights scored 18 points apiece to pace seven players in double figures as the visiting 76ers beat the Nets to complete their preseason schedule.

Thaddeus Young contributed 16 points and Willie Green finished with 14 for Philadelphia (4-3) which knocked down 14 3-pointers.

China's Yi Jianlian and rookie Brook Lopez led New Jersey (2-4) with 16 points apiece.

Washington Wizards 100, San Antonio Spurs 95 Nick Young and Caron Butler netted 15 points apiece, as the visiting Wizards (2-4) held off a late charge to slip past the Spurs in preseason play.

Tim Duncan tallied 20 points before sitting out the fourth quarter for the Spurs (3-3) who couldn't dig themselves out of an early 18-point deficit.

Detroit Pistons 97, Cleveland Cavaliers 79 Rodney Stuckey poured in 20 points off the bench, and Tashaun Prince added 17 as the host Pistons wrapped up their preseason by crushing the LeBron James-less Cavaliers.

Daniel Gibson netted 16 points for the Cavs (2-5) who rested superstar James.

Chicago Bulls 85, Minnesota Timberwolves 75 Larry Hughes scored 21 points before leaving in the third quarter with a dislocated right shoulder, leading the Bulls over the Timberwolves, in preseason play.

Hughes suffered the injury, crashing into Minnesota's Mike Miller.

Derrick Rose - the top overall pick in this summer's draft - finished with 17 points for the Bulls (3-4) who held their guests to nine points in both the first and fourth quarters.

Rashad McCants topped the Timberwolves (5-2) with 19 points while Al Jefferson also had 19 along with 11 rebounds.

Portland Trail Blazers 87, LA Clippers 75 Brandon Roy scored 17 points, rookie centre Greg Oden had 12 with 13 rebounds, and the visiting Trail Blazers (4-2) beat the banged-up Clippers in preseason action.

Al Thornton collected 16 points and eight rebounds for the Clippers (4-3) who without injured starters Baron Davis (left ring finger), Marcus Camby (bruised right heel) and Tim Thomas (groin strain), trailed 39-26 at halftime.
