A recent study on the benefits of physical exercise in patients with heart failure has failed to show conclusive results, as most of the subjects gave up their exercise routines after several months. Physical exercise is known to improve the quality of life and for maintaining the body as fit as possible and researchers hoped that this type of activity could have helped patients with heart failure. Heart problems are currently a big problem in the US and, generally, across the globe, as more and more people suffer from heart problems, mild or severe.
Statistics show that approximately 5 million Americans suffer from heart failure and that 300,000 deaths are to be blamed on this condition. Also, reports show that the condition is responsible for about 1 million hospitalizations each year. Scientists have tried to prove that physical exercise can improve the life of patients suffering from heart failure and have conducted an experiment. The study involved 2,231 heart failure patients, randomly assigned into two groups. One group benefited from standard medical care and the second one from the same care as the first one with an addition of a physical exercise routine. The study failed to show conclusive results, as the people from the second group gradually gave up exercising after several months. Statistics show that there were 796 deaths or hospitalizations in the first group and 759 in the second group, meaning that the results are not consistent enough to point to a conclusion.
All in all, experts believe that physical exercise can improve the quality of life and if this is combined with a balanced diet, low in fat, life should be a lot smoother.
