Sugarland Overtakes Teen Idol Miley Cyrus in Album Charts This Week

Sugarland claimed the first spot of Billboard’s weekly album chart, forcing teenage idol Miley Cyrus to “Breakout” from No. 1, after the 15-year-old’s album sales decreased by 56 percent from the album’s opening week.

For the week ended Sunday, Sugarland’s “Love on the Inside”, last week’s No. 2, sold 171,000 copies, easily surpassing the “Hannah Montana” star’s 163,000 units.

The Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush duo was lent a hand from an exclusive release tactic. Last week, the band released the higher-priced deluxe version of their “Love on the Inside,” while this week, they put the lower-priced standard edition out too, which drew good deal enthusiasts.

The “Mamma Mia!” soundtrack maintained its third position in the chart by selling 138,000 copies, dropping only 18 percent in album sales. What’s more, the only sale increase among the top 10 artists belonged to Kid Rock, whose “Rock N Roll Jesus” went up 3 percent and reached 96,000 copies.

Christian rockers Third Day landed on No. 6 with the high debut of “Revelation” and sold 75,000 copies of their 11th studio album. Other debuts include Kidz Bop 14 at No. 8 selling 58,000 units, and the eponymous opening album by Scars on Broadway, featuring System of a Down’s guitarist and stickman at No. 17 with 24,000 copies.

In what concerns the digital tracks chart, Rihanna’s “Disturbia” claimed the first spot with 139,000 copies, sending Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” on the third place after being No. 1 for several weeks. Debuting promisingly at No. 2, with 131,000 sales, was the Jonas Brothers’ album “Tonight.”
