A man suspected of killing a Brooklyn woman, who disappeared about seven months ago, was arrested by NYPD on Tuesday, authorities said.
The suspect currently under police custody is 32-year-old Kendrick Williams. He was handcuffed after forensic tests on his car linked him to the victim, police officials explained.
Williams will be charged with second-degree murder in the death of Stepha Henry, a grad student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The Brooklyn girl was last seen in May and her body wasn’t found.
Police officials did not give details about the nature of the evidence found in Williams’ vehicle and how they linked him with the case, Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said.
The missing girl is Henry and she would have turned 23 in September. She had come to Florida with her sister Shola before Memorial Day to celebrate Shola's birthday and was last seen on May 28th as she got into a black sedan driven by a man.
Henry told her mother she was going to a night club as she had made several friends in Florida during her frequent visits.
The investigators believe Williams was the driver of the black Acura Integra. He acknowledged that, but said they went to Peppers Café Nightclub, 3828 N. University Drive, in Sunrise, he left the club early and Henry decided to stay longer.
Henry’s body hasn’t been found and the details found in the car which linked Williams with the case weren’t made public.
It’s still unknown when Williams will be transferred to Florida. Miami detectives arrived in New York to investigate the suspect.
"This investigation is far from over," Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.
