The Beatles Live On Through Digital Video Game

During a conference call that was held this Thursday, October 30 in London, Harmonix, alongside MTV Games, announced they had sealed a partnership with the Beatles’ Apple Corps Limited to incorporate the iconic band’s music into a video game.

The Beatles’ two surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, have hailed the initiative, stating they were thrilled to have their tunes live on through the digital world.

Developers for the game, which is scheduled to be released in due time for the 2009 holiday season, will be allowed to choose 45 tunes from the Beatles catalog that was recorded between 1962 and 1969 to include in the band’s digital legacy.

Apple Corps and MTV Games have been in talks to develop the video game for 17 months now, but the first contract was only signed at the end of September this year.

This Thursday, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono Lennon were all present for the meeting between Apple Corps and MTV, during which details on the video game’s design, layout and date of release were discussed.

For the time being, the Beatles’ music is not available to be used on MP3 players or other digital retailers such as iTunes, since using the band’s tunes has been strictly limited these past 38 years.

The Beatles formed back in 1960 in Liverpool, when John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals) came together in what was to become one of the most successful pop and rock bands in history.
