Zoho and Zooos Are Competing With Microsoft’s Office Products

During the third annual 2.0 conference, which is scheduled to start on Thursday, two new applications, one from Zoho and one from Zooos, are due for release.

The first company’s product is called Zoho Docs and it is, just like Google Docs, a launcher and a file system, the difference between the two being that the former opens the documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the documents window, while the latter opens them in a new browser tab or window.

Zooos’ app has, in addition to the Open Office tools, real-time collaboration, which makes it similar to Google Docs, too. Moreover, it enables users to access documents via Box.net accounts, FTP servers and YouTube and Picassa Web accounts.

Zoho Docs is said to allow people to upload any file type with a ZIP upload process and also to offer a group sharing feature that will let specific groups access and edit documents.

In other news, the competition-Microsoft, that is-has announced that its Office Live Workspace Beta has reached a number of one million users.

The company’s service, which went into public beta in March, is a free online service that enables its users to upload, share or collaborate on documents. Currently, it is available in eleven languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Spanish and Traditional Chinese.

Director of consumer and small-business product management for Microsoft Office, Kirk Gregersen, stated that the company was extremely excited about this outcome, adding that, although still in beta version, the service will soon have some new features.
